Oh how nice. And the lies are already gushing out. “The platform wasn’t producing”. “The platform was processing oil from seven wells”. “There’s an oil slick”. “There’s no oil slick”. The above aren’t word-for-word quotes, but are paraphrased from the news stories I’ve read in the past hour.

But it doesn’t matter, right? Whatever oil ends up in the Gulf… 75% of it will magically disappear or turn into lemonade or orange-blossom honey, or whatever it is we’re supposed to believe happened to it.

Not to worry. Offshore oil drilling is perfectly safe, as BP kept telling us even as their catastrophe increased exponentially (as the truth leaked out). And in shallow water, as this one is, it’s even more than perfectly safe, right?

Of course this time, since we’re dealing with a Texas company, we’ll get nothing but the truth, right?

Sorry, I can’t help being cynical.

The problem with all the off the wall comments and theories about what happened on the Deep Water Horizon, including those of the so called industry experts; is that they and no one else knows what was inside the BOP at the time the subsea engineer operated the EDS button on the rigs, after two massive explosions, maybe half the rig floor had fallen down the riser, the only way to know is to recover the BOP, with the rams still closed so we can see what is inside it, that will tell the truth and the facts.. but the one thing you can say with almost 100% certainty is that the “BOP Didn’t cause the BLOWOUT”

It appears that the oil spill has has finally ceased, it are going to be very exciting to see if the pressure tests work as planned. I actually hope they get this point completely solved as soon as can be. I am definitely troubled that there is going to be some severe repercussions in time. I think that seafood industry will probably be affected for many decades to come. It’s poor enough how the wildlife continues to be injured so greatly, but I also experience that shoppers will no longer be capable to eat seafood with any level of confidence.

About a month ago, when I was going on vacation, I tried to volunteer. Every website I visited and every phone # they gave me were very vague.So I didn’t know what to do, and I felt I wasn’t needed. So I never went. This letter is revised from my first one, because lot’s of words were misspelled.

Between this and the Poison in our fresh water from fracking, where are we supposed to live? How are we supposed to live? And if our government is on *Their side, big oil and gas side because of all the money, then how are people supposed to defend their lives and livelihoods? And dont tell me it is with the law, because someone like me, cannot fight a company with 300 lawyers from high priced firms, I cannot fight someone who owns the press, and the local government.

The news blackouts and self-imposed censorship by the media make it impossible for us to learn the conditions you describe, observe and freely share (I am in New England). Hopefully, the official gag orders imposed by Washington and enforced by private and government agents will not prove to be in the worst interest of the poeple along the Gulf. It is a horrible thought to think that Washington would put at risk millions of innocents to satisfy the financial interests of BP and Corporate America. Time will give us that answer. Meanwhile, keep reporting. If anyone has found a website with similar reportage, please share it.

The runaway well MAY be capped, but the lies and coverups are going to go on and on and on. It’s not difficult to understand why Chambers of Commerce and tourist development agencies all along the Gulf coast want tourists to keep coming. And sure, it may be safe to go to the beach and in many places to even play in the water. After all, being a tourist involves much more than playing on beaches and in the water.

But damn it, NOAA and the FDA damn well ought to be rigorously testing seafood and honestly reporting the findings. The default assumptions SHOULD be that significant hydrocarbons and chemical dispersants are in the food chain. Unless all the living things in the Gulf have been holding their breath, and not eating, for the last three months.

It’s important to remember that during Katrina the media selected many more antagonists for us to get our ire up towards (FEMA, Michael Brown, Mayor Nagin, Gov. Blanco, Bush, and even the citizens of New Orleans). For this oil spill they have designated B.P. and Obama, so naturally Obama is going to take a huge brunt of the anger whether or not it’s deserved.

The comparisons though are weak. If a person is pro-life one needs to consider that over 1800 lives were lost after Katrina and the failed levees. Prior to the oil spill 11 lives were lost and no human lives since the oil started spewing. That is a tremendous difference.

In addition, few Americans remember or knew that a video and transcripts were uncovered 6 months after Katrina that clearly show President Bush being forewarned by Gov. Blanco, the Head of the Hurricane Center, and the Head of FEMA that the levees might be breached and that this storm was very likely to be devastating. Bush seemed indifferent and days after Katrina stated that “no one could have foreseen the breach of the levees.” This video showed him caught in a lie and fully warned.

I hope this oil spill is getting attention about how “stupid” off shore drilling really is. We are the only species that destroy our own water, and that’s not all. This is what really disturbs me. It seems like even though we are still experiencing the expansion of damage hourly, everyone is slow to respond, and many Americans are not aware of the seriousness of the situation. People are either not aware, are in denial, or it is the “by stander effect” where everyone is assuming someone else is going to do something about it. The human race is a pitiful disgrace to creation.

As the crude oil continues to invade the Gulf; BP, the US Government, the Coast Guard, and other official agencies monitoring the toxic crude, continues to FIDDLE. That is what I called the “Dance of Deliberate Deception”. No one will come forward with the intestinal fortitude, and declare the obvious – that crude oil is toxic to breath. There are warnings posted wherever the refined oil is found, like gas stations. I have been told that a medical study cannot be conducted until after 6 months of exposure. WHAT? There have been 21 years since the exposure of the crude oil in Prince William Sound, and no one is listening. So, after 6 months of workers in the gulf breathe in the crude oil, a study can be conducted? That leads me to believe that the government is holding up the rug, while BP sweeps known reports under the same rug, and the other agencies conduct the “Dance of Deliberate Deception” on top of the rug.

Anyone who reads this alert, stand with me, and demand honest answers for the Gulf residents, and cleanup workers who will be suffering from the crude oil toxic fumes if this political dance continues.

This alert has been posted since day one of the Gulf crude oil spill, and I will continue posting until BP supplies beach oil cleanup workers respirators.

Well this is certain to stir up some controversy. The drilling moratorium that was put into location was overturned by a judge. In short, offshore drilling will continue regardless of this accident. Drilling moratorium overturned by judge with oil company holdings
There are dozens of off shore drilling projects either in the works already or planned, and the judge says they should continue. Because oil is offshore, the drilling will continue; and this BP event is an accident that will not really stop drilling offshore. It would be really hard to stop an oil tycoon from getting their way, especially with how much tax money comes from oil. There is no need for an installment loan to fight offshore drilling; oil tycoons have way too much money.

It has been said that what man causes ( disaster in the Gulf ) man must put right – God or the angels cannot do it for us, although they can inspire us in whatever way is appropriate.

Most of the great spiritual teachers and teachings say that there are no such thing as innocent victims, that we create our own reality. Yea, a bummer but probably true.

Sending positive energy, love, to the Gulf area may do far more good than the anger that is being generated presently.

it’s called a compression fitting!!! come on people we are the greatest country in the world. go to any plumbing store in the world pick up a compression fitting take it to one of the people in charge tell them to have a very very large one made put it over the pipe use one of your little subs to tighten it up around the leaking pipe then put a pipe in the other end and tighten it then repeat as needed until you have added a mile of pipe put the oil into tankers and get on with cleaning up the mess you people have made of our coast. and by the way bp you should give the usa oil for free from now on.

i am a retired USCG officer with vast experience in environmental respones in the military and civilan sector.i have been critical of BP, USCG and other federal
agencies. I know the law and have the management and leadership skills to help lead BP out of this diasaster. i cleaned up some of the largest oil spills in the eastern US as a Fed Agent and civilian contractor. Please contact me as i am getting sick of all he dumb decisions on both sides of the fence. I can improve the clean effort and the PR for BP. I guarantee results and a complete turnaround in the nations concept of BP and the effort that they NEED to be making. I can take the complete program over after complete review of all aspects or play a big roll in the Health, Welfare of the Environment and bringing BP back to it’s pre-spill economic statis.

Folks currently are questioning if God is so good, then why did He cause, or why did He allow the Deepwater Disaster to occur, killing 11 innocent men, and putting the entire eco system of the Gulf of Mexico into a catastrophic decline. And it’s not only the ecosystem but the future health and livelihoods of the Gulf’s inhabitants and possibly those of the entire southern parts of the USA. – Not to mention innocent people elsewhere, which the deadly toxins might affect, as is being postulated currently.

Go back to the top hat seal the bottom with doors. From the surface create,pull, a tremendous vacum inside the top hat from above. Place it over the well head release the doors they will implode causing the top hat to pull down over the well head and also the vacum will pull the oil and gas together and help the gas pressure to push the oil and gas to the surface. Once the top hat is firmly in place the vacum can be reduced.

According to the independent inspector for BP, the BP oil platform called Atlantis is in worse condition than the Deepwater Horizon rig. He stated “if the Atlantis rig had an oil spill, the oil would cover the entire Gulf”. It’s not a matter of IF but WHEN.

The damage is NOT done. As we sleep millions of gallons of oil are continuing to damage. And as for “months to come” it will take decades to recover even if we stop the drilling now.
We must stop all drilling in the oceans now. As for the Brits, I am truly sorry that they have turned our gulf into a sewer and it has caused their stock in BP to go down. But the other oil companies are not different. They are all a part of encouragement of dependence on oil that is motivated by sheer greed. Our first challenge is to shut this flow down, next shut all offshore oil drilling down and third commit to alternate fuel sources and force BP to clean this mess up asap!

I am a pipe welder/equipment fabricator. I have drawn up an design tht would clamp on to the BOP just under the pipe flange with four threaded rods going upward thru a valve with a rubber cone mounted to it . you would leave the valve open and use rotary acuators on the treaded rod to pull the cone down into the open pipe. Once in place you would use a rotary acuatorto close the valve if it didnt seal it completey you could do another (JUNK SHOT) to finish sealing it.There is more detail to the to the design. I would really like to speak with someone from BP about this design. Its not just a thought,I am able to build it.Please contact me thru email address I left on this page.

Everyone is pointing fingers and accusing Bp, the president, Congress, the states, etc. As long as there no problems, though, no one questioned the wisdom or risk of drilling underwater, at depths where we cannot even pretend to know or control what we are doing. What kind of federal response do you expect, after all the years of downsizing and cutting back on undersea research and exploration? The federal government does not have the equipment or expertise, and it is likely no one can do anything until new technology ids developed to address the problem. Do the critics of the president expect him to send soldiers to enforce a repeal of the laws of physics, or build a dam big enough to place the oil well on dry land? At least this catastrophe may lead us to realize we HAVE to develop alternative energy sources, because we are poisoning the earth in our mindless quest for more, more, MORE!

Look at “Colorado Intergovernmental Risk Sharing Agency”. http://www.cirsa.org/ The Division of Insurance lists CIRSA as a “Governmental Self Ins Pool” http://cdilookup.asisvcs.com/CompanyDetails.aspx?AgyId=1938  While Salazar was CO AG and since, the State of Colorado admitted that it does not keep as required by CRS 24-10-115.5 (5) “The commissioner of insurance, or any person authorized by him, shall conduct an insurance examination at least once a year to determine that proper underwriting techniques and sound funding, loss reserves, and claims procedures are being followed.” With Salazar’s knowledge the state decided to ignore that law while Salazar was CO AG. The attorney bills paid by CIRSA show  2/19/03 “Telephone calls from and to Colorado Attorney General re case status”. I see that you don’t seem to accept comments that point out inaccuracies in your reporting of the spill crisis. I spoke via email to the original author and he admitted that the loop current has morphed into a clockwise loop current ring (which has not reattached) and the new direct passage from the Yucatan current to the Gulf Stream.

Make it in tree steps.
1: Place a ring of concrete about 10 meter wide and 1,5 meter high, and weight about 100 ton. It wil be a good base for the next element.And can include existing damaged pipes.
2: Place a new ring about 8 meter wide, 1,8 meter high upon the bace, to make room inside the construktion
3: Place a top to finish the construktion, mounted with the necessarry ventils.

The construktion will be verry heavy and stabil. And it is also posibel, and maby the most safe to continue the oilproduktion from the felt, until the pressure is verry low.
When the produktion stops, it’s quit easy to seagl the inside rome with concrete.
Its also possibel to remowe the elemets after som times .
Do something over there!

I keep seeing the live web cam showing the oil coming from the riser pipe that you tried to cut off last week, Just below there is a flange, something round, measure that flange , then get a pipe that fits that flange dimention, drop it down over the flange and up to the ship above,

How hard can it be. Just a mile of pipe ? ETC

There is a very sumple solution to containing and retreiving 100 percent of the leaking oil. It is really quite simple, that is perhaps why it was overlooked before. Here’s how to stop the oil leak.

Use a thick rubber sheet,which is very flexible but strong. Roll this sheet around the area of the leaking pipes at a distance far enough away so that the turbulance from the blow out does not disturb the effort. Incorporate in this flexible rubber sheet a tightening reinforced rubber tie at various places. At the top of this rubber containment sheet, is an attached rubber funnel leading to a sifening hose. Slowly tighten the ties causing the rubber sheet to close around the leak.

I hope some engineer will pick up on this, modify it as needed and use this containment sifening device to stop the oil leak and preserve our beautiful nature as well as out community.

I was unable to explain the mechanics of this device, for lack of time. However, the cylinder consists of vertical corrugations calculated to fit tightly in the riser when they are fully expanded. The sleeve glued to the surface of this cylinder has a plain side for gluing and the opposite side is ribbed with interconnected ridges each approximately 5mm apart with sides of approximately 45 degrees. When attached to the cylinder this sleeve should leave a space between the edges of the cuff travelling about 2/3 of the length of the cylinder to the top. This to act as a drain for the oil trapped in the vees when they are compressed. THE VALVES should be fitted to close from the outside of each end, and be rubber lined discs which can be closed onto the flat ends of the cylinder where the end plate of the cylinder takes the form of an ‘X’ enclosed in a circle and drilled to allow the feed pipe in. This is to prevent oil or mud from escaping when the pressure is applied to expand the cylinder, Above the cylinder and in the line through which the pressurising oil, or mud is pumped there should be an isolating valve. When the cylinder is full fitted and this tap closed, the feed pipe may be removed, and a cap placed over the end of the riser. The retention claws: will be ‘L’shped with the end of the long leg of the ‘L’ pointed and hardened and be able to pivot from the base corner of the ‘L’ allowing the until to swivel so that the hardened end can grip the inside of the riser to prevent ‘blow back’ while the cylinder is being expanded. I hope that this explanation allows you to visualize the set-up and the aim of the exercise, which is to expand the cylinder within the riser to block the flow of oil through it.

Please stop off-shore oil drilling! This is a tragedy beyond belief, and it’s not over, the federal government must stop the leak if BP can’t, and do it now.
We need a clean energy policy for the future, we need to invest in solar and wind, the costs of oil go so far beyond the $3 a gallon for gas that we pay at the pump, it is simply not worth it.

While it seems odd to talk about politics when real life continues to wash ashore on the coast of the Gulf, it’s kind of a relief to be able to put things in these terms.

So, in doing so, a couple of things are obvious: First, the public has turned definitively against offshore drilling. They’re more and more likely to think that the spill in the Gulf is part and parcel of having oil rigs off our coastline.

Second, there are a number of politicians, particularly Marco Rubio, that have NOT changed their mind about offshore drilling. What will the ramifications be for them as we move towards the November midterms?

I have an idea which I consider will cloase the discharge from the riser.
Basically, fit an expandable corrugated cylinder, valved to allow oil to flow through it while it is being fitted, and enclised in a horrizonatlly ribbed rubber case,into the riser. When positioned, enguage “l” shaped heel pivotted claws fitted to the top of the cylnder to prevent blow out, close the valves to stop oil flow through, and pump high pressure oil into the cylinder to expand it firmly against thge ribbed sleeve , allow the oil trapped in the vees of the sleeve to escape to the top of the riser. Two or more of these may be fitted in series in the pipe to allow squencial closing of the valves.Fit the front of the leading cylinder with a 30 degree tapered nose to asist entry, and divert some of the pressure from the rising oil.
