As a spearfisherman for the last thirty years in Key West, I can say that the impact of silt just from the every day ship traffic has had a far reaching affect .Once clean reefs in the path of silt currents gulf to atlantic are now void of life ,covered in a fine silt.I beleive the way to attack this is to show the mega ships in prospective to what they would look like in port.At 265 ft tall it makes HOB look like a doll house. These ships are bigger than an air craft carrier. We know the loss of habitat but some people her don't care about that.Look what HOB has done to perk anger. We the people have to demand a vote! I have yet to get a reply from my E-Mails to the commish and Mayor about a vote and what it would take to get it on the ballet.

FINALLY the EPA has done what common sense dictated decades ago! Cudos to all (and this certainly includes Craig & DeeVon!!!) who helped EPA recognize this important step in regulating nutrient pollution discharges. This will provide the legal justification to punish those who blatantly ignore existing nutrient discharge laws! However, our State leadership seems to think this is a bad thing for Florida! DEP has less than an admirable record of enforcing Clean Water Act regulations and needs to wake up to prevent a future catastrophe for Florida's water resources. Storm water also needs to be addressed more aggressively due to its effect on near shore water quality (think Beaches & Tourists, Gov. Crist!!).
