Mike Haridopolous, the leading proponent of near-shore oil drilling in state waters.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSB 2622 is similar to last year&#8217;s House Bill 1219. If approved by county commissioners, it will allow drilling in state waters from three to 10 miles from the beaches, and drilling from the beaches to the three-mile mark.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n&#8220;Once again, our legislators are attempting to allow Texas oil to invade our state waters,&#8221; says David Pleat, House District 7 candidate. &#8220;Senate Bill 2622, if passed into law, will forever change our traditional economy, threaten our military missions and put our beaches and shore waters at great risk.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe bill allows easements from rigs to the shores for pipelines and transportation of oil and allows above-ground platforms. In addition, the bill allows drilling in military ranges in state waters if temporary structures are used.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIf the Senate passes the bill and the House approves, it will go to Gov.
