{"id":238,"date":"2010-02-12T15:44:34","date_gmt":"2010-02-12T20:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reefrelieffounders.com\/news\/?p=238"},"modified":"2010-02-12T15:47:58","modified_gmt":"2010-02-12T20:47:58","slug":"joe-murphy-gulf-restoration-network-epa-public-hearing-on-clean-water-floridas-waters-need-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reefrelieffounders.com\/news\/2010\/02\/12\/joe-murphy-gulf-restoration-network-epa-public-hearing-on-clean-water-floridas-waters-need-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Joe Murphy, Gulf Restoration Network: EPA PUBLIC HEARING ON CLEAN WATER &#8211; Florida&#8217;s Waters Need You!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow Floridians,<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFlorida is a state in the midst of a clean water crisis.\u00a0 Our lakes, rivers, spring, and coastal estuaries are drowning in nutrient pollution.\u00a0 The good news is, after years of inaction and neglect, positive changes and real water quality improvements may be on the way with your help!<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nNutrient pollution, from things like nitrogen and phosphorus, reach our waters as pollution from farms and neighborhoods brings excess fertilizer and runoff.\u00a0 Algal blooms, increased red tides, fish kills, and polluted waters are the results.\u00a0 This is a problem people created, and people can solve.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nRecently the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced new, potentially stronger water quality standards for Florida.\u00a0 By setting numeric nutrient standards for Florida\u2019s waters it\u2019s possible to improve water quality and decrease pollution.\u00a0 Florida\u2019s leading polluters are working hard and spending lots of money to stop this effort.\u00a0 Only the voices of Floridians united for clean water and healthy coastlines can ensure that EPA continues to do the right thing and is serious about implementing the Clean Water Act.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nDuring the week of Feb. 15th the EPA will be holding three public workshops across Florida to hear from you, and to hear from folks like you who want clean healthy places to paddle, fish, bird, swim, surf, and sail.\u00a0 This is a historic and critical opportunity to speak out for clean water.\u00a0 The hearings will be held on:<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nTuesday Feb. 16th in Tallahassee, Fl. (The Florida Springs Rally is being held in Tallahassee on this day as well!)<br \/>\nWednesday Feb. 17th in Orlando, Fl.<br \/>\nThursday Feb. 18th in West Palm Beach, Fl.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFlorida\u2019s water quality crisis can be solved.\u00a0 It can be solved by folks like you speaking out and being advocates for the rivers, springs, and coastlines you love and use.\u00a0 Future generations of Floridians deserve clean, healthy water and we can be the catalyst for change to make it happen.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nCome to one of the Public Hearings, and look for folks from the conservation community who will be there to greet you with a sticker to wear, talking points for comments,\u00a0 and informational brochures.\u00a0 Wear blue to show your support for clean water!<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBelow are the dates and locations of the three public hearings in Florida.\u00a0 We need folks to attend, show their support, and consider submitting written or verbal comments.\u00a0 In some cases the online registration for the hearings through EPA has closed, but speakers will still be able to sign up at the hearing to speak.\u00a0\u00a0 Environmental groups will be at the hearings with talking points, sample comments, and buttons or stickers you can wear to show support.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThis is an incredible and critical opportunity to make a real and substantial difference in terms of the health of our waters in Florida!<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFebruary 16, 2010 at the FSU Conference Center (NEW location)<br \/>\n555 West Pensacola Street, Tallahassee, FL 32306-1640<br \/>\n10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.\u00a0<br \/>\n1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.<br \/>\n7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFebruary 17, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Orlando Universal<br \/>\n7800 Universal Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32819<br \/>\n1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.<br \/>\n7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFebruary 18, 2010 at the Holiday Inn Palm Beach Airport<br \/>\n1301 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33405<br \/>\n12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.<br \/>\n6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.<br \/>\nEPA encourages you to preregister for this hearing.
